Tsinghua University and All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese jointly established One Belt-One Road Strategy Institute in Beijing on April 25, aiming to integrate their advantageous resources and seek ways for global value chain cooperation and realize mutual benefits.
Tsinghua University is of vital importance in China’s academic research and All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese serves as the bridge to connect the returned overseas Chinese, their relatives and the overseas Chinese. The two sides will make joint efforts to build it into a modern high-end think tank, high-end talents training base and high-level international communication platform so as to support the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative.
Qiu Yong, the principal of Tsinghua University expressed that they will advocate the open ideas of cooperation, be open to integrate resources of all sides, actively engage in the Belt and Road initiative and constantly upgrade its ability to serve the Belt and Road initiative.
Lin Jun, President of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, hoped to strengthen research on national conditions and conditions of overseas civilians of countries along the “Belt and Road”, deepen feasible design on integration of folk force, especially the overseas civilians’ investment in the Belt and Road initiative and intensify the policy transformation of research fruits.
The “Belt and Road” construction requires to realize strategic docking and project docking with countries along the “Belt and Road”, and make smart docking and media docking as well. The Think tank construction is a major carrier to realize the docking, says an insider.
Aiming to provide a wider space for the Belt and Road initiative to dock more widespread popular will, wisdom and project, the “One Belt, One Road” Strategy Institute will commit to promoting global strategic cooperation and realize win-win cooperation and mutual benefits on global value chains.
Fan Hengshan, Deputy Secretary of National Development and Reform Commission pointed out that the implementation of “Belt and Road” initiative is complex and arduous and requires joint efforts of all sides. Tsinghua University and All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese co-build the “One Belt, One Road” Strategy Institute, which integrates the top academic resources with Chinese wisdom at home and abroad to contribute to study on major issues, cultural exchanges and talents training in line with the actual needs.
The construction and implementation of the “Belt and Road” cannot make it without the full support of the returned overseas Chinese and those abroad. Many countries along the “Belt and Road” are the areas where the overseas Chinese gather. The overseas Chinese business people are familiar with the international business rules, so they should be the platelayer and tramper to promote the “Belt and Road” construction.
Zhu Yilong, Vice President of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese said that in new historic period, the overseas Chinese are not only messengers to enhance communication and integration, but also a major strategic force of the “Belt and Road” construction. The Belt and Road initiative has inactivated the overseas Chinese’s common memory of the Silk Road and their enthusiasm for participation in the profound cooperation between China and the relevant countries.
In the future, All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese will integrate the resources of overseas Chinese business people in countries along the “Belt and Road” to provide information service and docking carrier for them to engage in the initiative. We’ll support and promote to implement their major projects, lead more overseas Chinese business people to engage in the “Belt and Road” construction and bring in intelligence and capital investment to the “Belt and Road” construction as well.
On April 29，Tsinghua University announced to found Asian University Union which consists 15 well-known universities in Asia, aiming to enhance connectivity of higher education in Asia and jointly scheme the future of Asian higher education.
Against the backdrop of steep fall of global investment， continuous decline of labor force, potential growth engine and productivity level, high hope has been placed on China’s Belt and Road initiative which seeks for new growth engine of the world economy. .
Fan Hengshan believed that to promote the “Belt and Road” construction is to provide effective supply, nurture new demands, enhance new growth engine in nature so as to form great capacity and construction ability, meet the development needs of industrialization and modernization of the countries along the “Belt and Road”, promote re-balance of world economy and boost global economy recovery.
Since the global economy crisis in 2008, the global value chains have entered into the period of deep adjustment from the stage of rapid expansion, and international trade and economic rules are also encountering great changes.
Shen Danyang, Director of the Policy Research Department of MOFCOM hoped that more think tanks could engage in the “Belt and Road” construction, jointly study how to promote global vale chains’ cooperation and mutual benefits and how to reshape China’s new advantages in international competition.
